Longtime Republican activist Sharron Albertson said she remains undecided in the state’s Senate runoff because of text messages from Ken Paxton concerning the settlement terms in his divorce. “He wrote back, ‘She’s getting a better deal than I am,’” Albertson recalled. Paxton, who faces multiple indictments and impeachment on charges of bribery and abuse of office, continues to lead Senator John Cornyn in polls among primary voters. Supporters cited his record of filing dozens of lawsuits against the Obama administration as evidence of his fitness for higher office. “I’m not voting him in to be my husband,” said state legislator Shelley Luther. Paxton has denied any professional misconduct while noting that his legal troubles have not prevented him from raising millions through a blind trust. Campaign aides said the candidate plans to continue small-talk appearances at furniture stores and gun ranges ahead of the May runoff.
